In July, the pipelines engineering, utilities and surveying industries converged on Nashville, Tennessee, for the 2019 Pipelines Conference. In addition to the technical sessions, exhibit hall and networking events, several related committee meetings took place.

The Pipelines Conference is the premier event for the pipelines engineering, utilities and surveying industries and hosted by the Utility Engineering and Surveying Institute (UESI) of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Canada’s UESI chapters – Ontario/GTA and Alberta/BC – hosted a joint meeting to promote the chapters and UESI as a whole to the Canadian attendees.

Canadian chapters founding member Ophir Wainer, senior principal SUE, T2 Utility Engineers led the meeting, which included an update on UESI’s initiatives in Canada, upcoming events in Ontario and the launch of uesicanada.org as the online home for all Canadian UESI chapters. The Ontario GTA chapter also launched a LinkedIn group and Twitter account @UESI_ONGTA.

The chapters have a trio of events planned for September and October. Registration for all of these events can be found at uesicanada.org.

UESI and Utility Risk Management: This educational seminar is a co-presentation of the Ontario GTA Chapter and the Centre for Advancement of Trenchless Technologies (CATT). The seminar is set to take place Sept. 10 in Mississauga, Ontario.

The workshop will provide an overview of the goals of the UESI, including various advancements in utility mapping technologies and standards. Viewpoints, needs, and issues from various stakeholders will be discussed, and will include speakers from the utility, consulting/construction, and municipal sectors.

Who should attend? Engineering consultants, contractors, technologists, municipal employees, field technicians, suppliers, infrastructure asset managers and anyone else who has an interest in municipal pipelines and wants to keep abreast of emerging industry trends to save money and environment.
