Backwoods Energy Services Announces CEO’s Departure

Backwoods Energy Services LP – one of the largest Indigenous-owned companies in Canada – announces the departure of its CEO Dario Gnoato, P.Eng. His departure became effective May 8.

Wholly owned by the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation, Backwoods Energy Services provides access and matting solutions, civil construction, forestry, pipeline infrastructure and security services in Western Canada.

Gnoato’s leadership was important to the business during a transformative period. Under his leadership, and through the efforts of Team Backwoods, the company was able to stabilize its operations. In addition, the company was able to strengthen its foundation and position itself for long-term sustainability and growth.

Backwoods remains well positioned moving forward, with a strong leadership team, a clear operating structure, and an ongoing focus on delivering safe, reliable, and high-quality services to clients, partners, and the communities we serve.

The Board of Directors has begun the search process for Dario’s successor. In the interim, the Board Chair, Ian Anderson, will serve as CEO. Day-to-day operations and management will continue to be led by Andrew Gibson, Jeremy Yee and Ashley Fontaine. This will ensure continuity for employees, clients, partners and stakeholders.
