Trenchless Technology Canada Editor’s Message — Niagara Falls a Success
July 21, 2016
I want to start out my July column by thanking everyone who attended and exhibited at the biennial Trenchless Technology Road Show in Niagara Falls in May.
The event, as many are aware, is a cooperative effort between Benjamin Media Inc. (our publisher) and the Centre for Advancement of Trenchless Technologies (CATT).

This was my second Niagara Falls show and I’m amazed by the growth in just two years. We broke attendance records for 2016 and I hope that trend continues in 2018. The growth can be attributed to both CATT’s reach in Canada and the continued growth of the trenchless industry across the country. We are also planning our second Trenchless Technology Road Show in British Columbia with CATT and NASTT-BC for 2017. More information can be found at the CATT website.
The Niagara Falls show afforded me an opportunity to meet face-to-face with readers, find out about the projects they are involved with, have in the works or recently completed. Some of the items I learned about in Niagara Falls actually made it into the News section of the July issue of Trenchless Technology Canada making it one of the more robust News sections to date in our dedicated Canada edition. Read some of the news items from our July issue below.

I would like to continue this trend going forward and in order to do that, I invite our readers to submit news items to mkezdi@benjaminmedia.com. Other items will make it into future issues as feature stories.
With the July issue in your hands, we are already working on October, as well as our four 2017 issues. I would love to hear from our readers about how we can improve the magazine to better suit your needs.
In addition to a recap of the Niagara Falls show, in the July issue we delve into equipment sales. More specifically used equipment sales via auction with a cover story that highlights British Columbia’s own Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers.

The global auction powerhouse broke records earlier this year at the annual spring auction at the Edmonton facility. The auction not only broke sales records, but also the amount of bidders — more than 16,700 from 55 countries, number of online registered bidders — more than 10,550, number of sellers and number of lots sold. For those who have shied away from auctions Ritchie Bros. President of Canada Randy Wall offers some tips for buying at the auction.
Don’t Forget — World Trenchless Day
Just a reminder we want to hear from our readers about what you have planned for World Trenchless Day, a campaign we officially launched in March. In case you missed it, we envision World Trenchless Day, celebrated on the fourth Thursday of September (22-09-16), as a day when the industry can come together — crossing party lines so to speak — and spread the positive message of all of trenchless’ benefits — safety, economics, environmental and social. The day is open to everyone in the industry — publications, blogs, manufacturers, students, organizations, educators, contractors, engineers, public works, etc.
If you haven’t checked out worldtrenchlessday.org, you really should. The site features ideas on how you can celebrate the day, as well as a list of organizations that support the idea of World Trenchless Day. That list continually grows and anyone is welcome to submit a logo. Simply email worldtrenchlessday@gmail.org with the logo attached and a URL for your website homepage.
If you’re a fan of social media, be sure to follow the World Trenchless Day Twitter account: @TrenchlessDay and our Facebook fan page: @WorldTrenchlessDay. We also have a LinkedIn group for sharing ideas on how the industry can lead the charge in spreading awareness of World Trenchless Day. Follow this link to LinkedIn to join our growing group.
Thanks for reading and remember to celebrate World Trenchless Day on 22-09-16!
