TTC UIS 2017 Field Work

This short course will give practitioners the knowledge and tools to provide competent utility investigations in accordance with accepted national standards (ASCE 38-02) and to defend against claims through this knowledge and its documentation.

The Trenchless Technology Center at Louisiana Tech University (TTC), in conjunction with the ASCE’s Utility Engineering and Surveying Institute (UESI,) have teamed up to hold the 2018 Utility Investigation School (UIS).

UIS 2018 takes place Feb. 26 to March 2 at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana. Course director is Dr. Tom Iseley, associate director of International Operations, TTC/CETF professor, LA Tech. Primary course instructor is Jim Anspach, PG (r), F.ASCE, founding governor and president UESI and chair of ASCE-38.

This five-day course will be taught by leading experts in the geophysics and subsurface utility engineering (SUE) field. This short course will give practitioners the knowledge and tools to provide competent utility investigations in accordance with accepted national standards (ASCE 38) and to defend against claims through the knowledge gained from this course.

TTC UIS 2017 classroom

In addition to field work, UIS 2018 will include classroom instruction.


In addition to classroom lectures, practical sessions will be held where participants will be offered hands-on experience with the GPR, PCL and other training equipment, followed by testing each day. At the end of this short course, students will receive 4 CEUs (equivalent to 4 PDHs) and a Certificate of Completion.

The course is designed for engineers, surveyors, project managers and consulting engineers, as well as employees of utility companies, state departments of transportation, local highway agencies, regulatory agencies and local governments.

Early bird course registration is $1,495 per attendee and ends Jan. 20. Registration includes course materials, hand-outs, CEU/PDH certificates, refreshments and lunch. No fee for name change on registration. After Jan. 20, registration is $1,595. Receive a 10 percent discount for registering three or more people.
