Vortex Companies Grows in the Northeast

Vortex Companies continues to grow its service offerings with the acquisition of CLH & Son Inc. (CLH). The Auburn, Maine-based infrastructure contractor specializes in sliplining, concrete rehabilitation, excavation, drainage improvements and related utility services.

“We’re seeing growing demand across the Northeast and continuing to expand our ability to serve that market,” says Mike Vellano, CEO of Vortex Companies. “CLH brings proven execution and complementary capabilities that strengthen our ability to self-perform a broader range of rehabilitation projects and deliver more for customers across the region.”

Founded in 1979 by Calvin Hunter and now led by his grandson Travis Stearns, CLH has built a strong reputation. Its clients include municipalities, state departments of transportation, utilities and contractors throughout New England. The company specializes in addressing aging storm and sewer systems and related underground infrastructure.

“Joining Vortex gives our team the opportunity to build on what CLH has established over more than four decades while bringing an even broader set of solutions to our customers,” says Stearns. “Together, we can provide infrastructure owners with the right combination of technologies, services and field expertise to tackle increasingly complex rehabilitation needs.”

CLH will become part of Vortex Services Northeast, adding an experienced team in specialized infrastructure rehabilitation. The combination creates opportunities to enhance project delivery, expand service offerings and leverage operational best practices across Vortex’s growing regional platform.

“This acquisition expands both the types and scale of projects we can pursue in the Northeast,” says Ram Vela, chief strategy officer of Vortex Companies. “It strengthens our regional platform and positions us to capture a greater share of a growing market.”
