Twinsburg Township Explosion Damages Dozens of Homes, Investigation Continues

A natural gas explosion on June 25, 2026, destroyed three homes and damaged more than 30 others in Twinsburg Township, Ohio – a suburb of Cleveland. The explosion occurred on Hiram Lane in the Woodlands subdivision.

According to WKYC Channel 3 Cleveland:

The incident began when a contractor performing underground work struck a natural gas line, causing a significant gas leak in the neighborhood. Firefighters responded to the scene and issued evacuation and shelter-in-place orders while utility crews worked to stop the leak. Before the gas supply could be shut off, an ignition source triggered an explosion that destroyed one home and set two neighboring homes on fire.

According to News 5 Cleveland (WEWS):

Twinsburg Fire Department officials reported that three homes were total losses. More than 30 additional homes sustained damage, ranging from broken windows and damaged siding to significant structural impacts. Authorities estimated that nearly three dozen properties were affected by the blast.

Two people received medical treatment following the incident. Officials reported no fatalities. Fire Chief Earl Wilson said the family living in the home where the explosion originated was away at the time of the blast. Local authorities described the absence of serious injuries as fortunate given the scale of the explosion and the density of the residential neighborhood.

Emergency responders from multiple agencies, including the Twinsburg Fire Department, Summit County Sheriff’s Office, and neighboring police departments, assisted with evacuations and response efforts. The American Red Cross provided temporary assistance to displaced residents and families affected by the damage.

FOX 8 Cleveland (WJW) reports:

On June 26, Uniti Group said its subcontractor was working in the Twinsburg Township neighborhood when a gas line was struck before the June 25 explosion. Uniti Group is the parent company of Kinetic Fiber, which was doing install work in the neighborhood.

The company’s preliminary findings suggest inaccurate utility markings by a third-party locator may have contributed. The explosion remains under investigation by the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO).
