âDuring our initial demonstration tour for the Vactor Paradigm truck, we received great interest from our customers for an air-only configuration,â said Ben Schmitt, product manager, Vactor Mfg. âMany of our contractor and utility customers are looking at air excavation as a method to solve their spoil disposal issues. Air excavation keeps the material dry and available for backfill â which is very handy for subsurface utility engineering companies involved in mapping utility infrastructure.â
The Paradigmâs modular design allows Vactor to tailor the vacuum excavator to meet specific customer needs â with or without air, and with or without water. The air-only configuration of the Paradigm is equipped with the choice of air compressor rated at 185 cfm at 150 psi or 300 cfm at 250 psi.
The Paradigm can also be configured with several different water system configurations, including a wash-down system rated for 4 gpm at 2,500 psi equipped with a 100-gallon water tank, or a hydroexcavation system rated for 8 gpm at 2,500 psi equipped with a 300-gallon water tank.
âOur customers ask, and Vactor delivers,â Schmitt said. âThe various configurations and options available across our entire line of vacuum excavation equipment are examples of Vactorâs ongoing commitment to deliver innovative, customer-inspired solutions.â
Vactor also recently introduced an extreme terrain configuration of the Paradigm truck that features a Mattracks 400 series rubber track conversion system for pipeline, utility and construction applications.
âWe are pleased to offer a Vactor Paradigm track configuration for our customers working in rugged, remote environments.â said Schmitt. âThe ability to quickly switch from tires to tracks, and to move from the road to harsh conditions and terrain, makes the multi-purpose Paradigm truck even more versatile. This is yet another example of Vactorâs ongoing commitment to deliver innovative solutions that meet the ever-changing needs of our customers.â

The hub-mounted design of the Mattracks 400 Series track system facilitates a fast conversion â approximately 45 minutes in a shop â from tires to tracks. Featuring a patented rubber torsion anti-torque system and a 20-in. wide front track and a 30-in. wide rear track, this system includes steering assist and a rocker suspension.
âThe track configuration of the Vactor Paradigm vacuum excavator is ideal for pipeline applications where significant ground pressure may cause damage to buried infrastructure,â Schmitt said. âPreviously, pipeline contractors operating vacuum trucks were required to lay down wood matting on the job site to prevent the trucks from applying too much ground pressure, a process that can be extremely time consuming and expensive.â
Schmitt added that the Paradigm track configurationâs powerful vacuum and 6-in. vacuum hose provide a significant advantage to contractors performing locates every thirty feet on a pipeline in remote conditions.
