Los Cabos, Mexico Greets DCA
The beautiful Mexican Resort area at the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula hosted the Distribution Contractors Association (DCA) 49th annual convention Feb. 23-28. The location was the Fiesta Americana Grand at Los Cabos.
DCA 2009 president Shepard Poole, Hallen Construction Co., presided over the convention in which 275 attended.
There were numerous business and social events throughout the meeting. Business speakers included: Vincent Giblin, International Union of Operating Engineers; Sam Glenn, of “The Authority on Attitude; and Jordan Goodwin, “America’s Money Answers Man.”
DCA’s annual Education Auction is always a social highlight of its convention. This year was DCA’s 20th Educational Auction and the event raised more than $225,000.
The convention was special for Dennis Kennedy, who is retiring as DCA executive vice president. At one of the business sessions, a good humored “roast” was held for Kennedy. At the final black tie affair banquet, Kennedy was inducted as an honorary member of DCA. Also at the President’s Dinner, the 2010 officers were introduced. Kevin Miller, Miller Pipeline Corp., assumed the reins of president for 2010. Moving up to vice president was Greg Dahl, ARB, with Kevin Michels, Michels Corp., named treasurer.
DCA convenes at its 22nd annual Mid-Year Meeting July 14-18, at the La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, Calif. For its 50th annual convention in 2011, DCA will travel to Puerto Rico, March 1-6, to meet at the El Conquistador Resort.
