The Water Technology Acceleration Project (WaterTAP) Board of Directors has announced that Dr. Peter Gallant has been appointed as president and CEO, effective immediately.

“We are pleased to welcome Peter to the team,” said WaterTAP board chair Kenneth A. Morrison. “He is a skillful, seasoned entrepreneur and leader with extensive experience in the global water technology sector. He is primed to lead WaterTAP as we expand our plans to provide value and support to growing companies.”

“I have spent the past decade developing innovative water technologies, and I am honoured to have the opportunity to lead WaterTAP. This organization plays a unique role that recognizes the value of water as a critical driver of economic growth,” Gallant said. “I look forward to working with the team, our clients, and our stakeholders as we continue our mission to connect, accelerate, and celebrate Ontario’s thriving water technology sector.”

As the founding president and CEO of Kingston, Ontario-based Pathogen Detection Systems Inc., Gallant played a lead role in commercializing advanced microbiological detection systems. In 2009, the company was acquired by Veolia Water Solutions and Technologies and became ENDETEC – the global water quality sensor platform for Veolia Water. From 2009 to 2015, Gallant served as vice president, business development and regulatory affairs for ENDETEC.

Prior to joining the WaterTAP team, he served on the organization’s board since its inception, and held the role of vice chair until his retirement from the board in early 2015. He has served in several advisory roles for government agencies and start-up companies, and currently serves as co-Chair of the American Water Works Association Steering Committee on Barriers to Innovation in the Water Sector. He is also an adjunct instructor in the internationally ranked Queen’s School of Business, where he lectures on entrepreneurship, strategy, and new venture finance. He holds B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Queen’s University.
