SkillsUSA, NASSCO Team Up to Support Outstanding Skilled Trades Students
SkillsUSA recently announced that the National Association of Sewer Service Companies (NASSCO) has signed on to become an official sponsor of the organization. NASSCO is committed to setting industry standards for the assessment, maintenance and rehabilitation of underground infrastructure, and to assure the continued acceptance and growth of trenchless technologies.

“The underground infrastructure industry offers extremely viable and robust career opportunities in the water and wastewater sectors,” said Sheila Joy, NASSCO’s executive director. “Using impressive trenchless technologies that minimize the need to dig up pipes literally has changed the landscape for hiring young workers. Our partnership with SkillsUSA allows us to build awareness of the need to repair our failing underground infrastructure, support the construction segment and present career opportunities to young people who are seeking long-term, meaningful employment in an industry that keeps our communities healthy.”

This diverse talent pipeline covers 130 trade, technical and skilled service occupations, the majority STEM-related.
More than 600 corporations, trade associations, businesses and labor unions actively support SkillsUSA at the national level. SkillsUSA programs are integrated into career and technical education through a framework of personal, workplace and technical skills grounded in academics. Local, state and national championships, designed and judged by industry, set relevant standards for career and technical education and provide needed recognition to its students. SkillsUSA also offers technical skill assessments and other workplace credentials.
