RJN Group Designs Solution for USS Outfall along Grand Calumet River

The Grand Calumet Embankment at Gary Works Outfall #18 failed during the heavy spring rains. Gary Works, a division of US Steel, located in Gary, Ind., requested an immediate solution for long-term operations. RJN Group, Inc. (RJN) working with Slurry Systems, headquartered in Gary, Ind., will be providing Gary Works with Sealed design drawings for repair construction.

Outfall repair is needed to halt erosion before any structures are permanently damaged or lost. To start the repair construction, a combination of HP piles, plates, and sheet piling will be installed. The design and construction will be performed concurrently, while maintaining the unrestricted flow (1,500 gpm) of the outfall.
