October 27, 2015
ISCO Industries Inc. (ISCO) and Northern Mining Services Inc. (NMS) are teaming in the Iron Range mining region. ISCO has entered into a transaction to acquire substantially all the assets of NMS, a Hibbing, Minn.-based mining product and equipment provider. This is a move that will provide ISCO a strong foothold as a provider of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe in northeastern Minnesota. The transaction, which closed on Oct. 23, will add NMS’ extensive fleet of mining products and equipment to ISCO’s extensive line of HDPE products and fusion equipment.
NMS owner Mike Swinda started the company in 2004 after a 20-year career in the mining service industry. His extensive knowledge of the industry, along with the expertise of NMS’ highly trained staff will add long-term value to ISCO’s presence in the Iron Range. In connection with the transaction, ISCO will continue to operate out of NMS’ current facility with plans to expand the existing lay-down yard to allow for additional products and equipment.
“In order to do business in the Iron Range, you need to have a physical presence there,” explains ISCO president and CEO Vince Tyra. “Joining forces allows us to bring unprecedented access to our HDPE pipe, fusion equipment, and fabrication services while expanding our offerings in the mining and aggregate industries.” Swinda notes, “This transaction provides greater long-term opportunity for our employees and it is clear that ISCO’s commitment to the Range will provide our customers with an expanded product and services offering.”
