Publisher’s Message – Congratulations to our 2024 Project of the Year Winners!
We’re excited to announce the 2024 Trenchless Technology Project of the Year awards in our October issue! These projects serve as living examples of what can be achieved when expertise, collaboration, and cutting-edge technology come together.
Our aim in sharing these notable and award-winning projects is to help you stay ahead of the curve, adapt to evolving challenges, and push the boundaries of what’s possible in underground construction projects!
Each year, our editorial team solicits nominations for the Project of the Year awards via our online nomination form. Nominations are evaluated based on technical advancements, the complexity of the tasks, the milestones conquered, the spirit of collaboration, and how the project advanced the trenchless industry as a whole.
This year’s New Installation Project of the Year, the Trans Mountain Expansion Project, stands out for its scale and technical innovation. With 75 major and 557 minor trenchless crossings, the project tackled extreme challenges with groundbreaking techniques, including Direct Pipe, microtunneling, and horizontal directional drilling (including through extremely hard bedrock).
This year’s Rehabilitation Project of the Year is remarkable for its complexity and innovation. As the first major U.S. project designed using ASCE MOP 145, it pushed the boundaries of modern CIPP design. Unique downtown waterfront location with limited access, the challenges of lining large-diameter CIPP with unusual geometry and depths of up to 20 ft, and the innovative design methodology used made this $18 million project a standout, demonstrating flawless execution from all teams involved.
Want to know how they did it? Get all the details of these winning projects, as well as the runner-up and honorable mention projects, including the James River Crossing record-breaking HDD project inside this issue.
Winners will be recognized at the NASTT 2025 No-Dig Show March 30-April 3 in Denver. To register, go to nodigshow.com.
