DCA Meets in Hawaii for 2024 Convention
The annual Distribution Contractors Association (DCA) Convention was held in February in Kona, Hawaii, on the Kohala coast of the Big Island.
Hawaii is always a big draw for the convention, with more than 450 attendees, including 75 first timers. 2023 DCA president, Ray Swerdfeger, of K.R.Swerdfeger Construction, presided over the convention.
Energy Services Board director Lori Traweek reported in a business session that the gas distribution industry continues to be strong. Following a 33-year career with the American Gas Association, Traweek now serves on numerous energy-related boards of directors.
Eben Wyman of Wyman Associates represents DCA in Washington D.C. and at another business session presented an update on the Transportation & Infrastructure and Energy & Commerce congressional committees and their work related to gas distribution.
Kevin Nishimura, vice president of operations at Hawaii Gas, gave an interesting talk about blending hydrogen and renewable natural gas. Hawaii Gas is one of the first to do this.
There were great networking opportunities mixed in with the business sessions. The Thursday and Friday breakfast speakers focused on AI and other rapidly evolving technologies.
The educational auction was again a huge success, raising $673,000. Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers handled the auction.
As the convention wrapped up at the final banquet, Mark Albert, of AGI Construction, was introduced as the 2024 DCA president. The 2025 convention will be held in Scottsdale, Arizona at the Fairmount Princess.
