Wachs Water Services & Veritec Consulting Sign MOU to Help Utilities Tackle Challenges

Wachs Water Services and Veritec Consulting Inc., a Miya Group Co.,, recently announced a memorandum of understanding (MOU) aimed at further helping utilities ensure reliable and sustainable operation of aging water distribution systems.

The majority of underground water infrastructure in urban areas of North America, such as pipelines and valves, were installed more than  60 years ago. Managing these aging water assets is becoming a greater challenge with each passing year despite the proactive efforts of many utilities. Water main breaks, water loss, unbilled water and reduction in treatment efficiencies (energy and chemical usage) are all impacting the quality and quantity of water received by consumers.

“Water infrastructure renewal represents a major challenge for many urban centers because it’s a large issue to tackle,” said Alain Lalonde, principal, Veritec Consulting Inc. “This MOU provides our clients with the added value of incorporating in-line leak detection technologies, valve maintenance, hydrant assessments and GIS information services to immediately enhance water distribution system operations.”

The MOU outlines cooperation in a number of areas, including the use of advanced LDS 1000 and Investigator pipeline condition assessment services for in-line leak detection, non-revenue water loss programs, accurate hydraulic modeling, and flow and pressure inspections.

The LDS 1000 and Investigator in-line pipeline condition assessment technologies provide accurate and tangible information, which can be immediately used to pinpoint weak sections of the water distribution system prior to a rupture or a significant loss of water. The advanced pipeline condition assessment technologies can visually inspect the inside of pressurized transmission and distribution mains with no disruption to service.

Under the terms of the MOU, the scope of the strategic alliance will include joint field training and cooperative marketing to customers and channels throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.
