U.S. Secretary of Commerce Visits Vermeer Corp.

 

 U.S. Secretary of Commerce PennyPritzker traveled to Vermeer Corp. Aug. 9 as she continues her nationwidelistening tour, during which she is meeting with businesses and thought leadersto hear about their priorities, concerns and ideas on how the public andprivate sectors can work together to strengthen the economy and create Americanjobs.

While visiting, Secretary Pritzkersaw examples of the Vermeer  globalfootprint by touring manufacturing facilities where the company’s largestmachine to date – the 200-ton T1655 Terrain Leveler surface excavation machine —is built and then exported around the world; the Vermeer Parts Center wheremore than 65,000 active parts are stocked and shipments are made domesticallyand internationally daily; and lastly, the lean brush chipper assembly linewhere the number of days from raw steel to finished product has been reducedfrom 52 days to two days as part of a Lean journey that began in 1997.
