ISTT Sydney No-Dig a Success

2013 ISTT Sydney, AustraliaThe International Society for Trenchless Technology (ISTT), in cooperation with the Australasian Society for Trenchless Technology (ASTT), held the 31st annual No-Dig Sept. 1-4 in Sydney, Australia. The venue was the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, overlooking Darling Harbor.

The show had approximately 900 attendees. A highlight of the event was the annual ISTT No-Dig Awards. There are four categories. In the Rehabilitation Project category the award went to the Interflow Pty Ltd for Sydney Water, Australia, for a complex sewer project employing Sekisui Expanda Pipe. In the New Installation category, the winner was the Fujian Dongchen Geotechnical Foundation Engineering Company from China. The project was a large diameter system that employed 3D Curved Pipe Jacking Technology. The New Product award winner went to Alpha Civil Engineering from Japan for its Rectangular Culvert Pipe Jacking Machine. The final category was for Academic Research, which was presented to National Quemoy University of Taiwan for Systematic Image Quality Assessment for Sewer Inspection.

2013 ISTT Sydney, AustraliaThe program included 60 technical papers and exhibit hall with 124 exhibitors. The social side of the program included a Sydney Harbor Cruise, sponsored by Vermeer. 

The event provided the opportunity for Derek Choi to assume the chairmanship of ISTT. Choi is a founding member of the China Hong Kong Society for Trenchless Technology. Stepping down as ISTT Chairman was Dr. Sam Ariaratnam of Arizona State University and NASTT.
