Innovative Products, NASTT Hall of Fame Induction: 2015 No-Dig Show Day Two
March 18, 2015
Tuesday proved to be another busy day at the Colorado Convention Center for NASTT’s 2015 No-Dig Show and highlights include the announcement of the innovative product award winners, the induction of the fourth NASTT Hall of Fame class, as well as awards for young trenchless achievement and lifetime service.
At the No-Dig Show Gala Dinner, NASTT inducted its fourth class into the NASTT Hall of Fame. Joining the hall are the late David Magill Jr., Avanti International; Ron Halderman, Mears Group; and Kaleel Rahaim, Interplastics Corp.
The NASTT Board of Directors created the Hall of Fame in 2010, to ensure that the society’s most outstanding and praiseworthy members received due recognition. The intent of the NASTT Hall of Fame is to preserve the outstanding accomplishments of exceptional individuals and to honor their contributions to the advancement of both the trenchless industry and the society.

Also receiving recognition at the Gala Dinner were the Trent Ralston Award for Young Trenchless Achievement and NASTT Chair Award for Lifetime Service award winners.
Dave Krywiak, of Stantec Consulting Ltd., received the NASTT Chair Award for Lifetime Service. This award acknowledges individuals who have selflessly given of their time and talents to enhance NASTT and the industry.
Alison St. Clair, of Gibson Thomas Engineering, and Dr. Aliraza Bayat, director of the Consortium for Engineered Trenchless Technologies at the University of Alberta, received the Trent Ralston Award for Young Trenchless Achievement. Since 2010, this annual award has recognized a young individual who has demonstrated excellence in the early stages of his or her career and who has made a valuable contribution to the trenchless technology industry.
One of the reasons NASTT’s No-Dig Show is a must attend event for the trenchless industry is that it allows companies to unveil the latest technologies that will help advance the industry as a whole. NASTT’s Joseph L. Abbott, Jr. Innovative Product Awards recognize two companies with state-of-the-art products in either new installation or rehabilitation for their achievements in advancing the trenchless industry.
This year, those honors went to:
Source 1 Environmental (S1E) for its PipePlug, a proprietary system designed and engineered by S1E to be a simple, safe and cost-effective solution to terminate laterals and bulkhead mainlines. This product is a trenchless option to seal off the lateral prior to demolition or when rerouting the sewer is needed.
TT Technologies for its new Grundopit K-keyhole mini directional drill is designed to operate out of a keyhole excavation for the trenchless installation of gas and water service connections. The unit is fully automated and able to work in a 24-in. diameter excavation. The unit is able to install service installation up to 2 inches at lengths up to 200 ft.
We also discovered, while making our rounds on Day 2, of NASTT’s 2015 No-Dig Show, that Wally Huber, from LMK Technologies, was closing the book on his 45-year trenchless career, the last 17 of which were at LMK. Congrats and best of luck to Wally.
