How to Reduce Pipe Installation Damage On HDDs
New Horizons = New Threats = New Solutions
Trenchless construction allows for pipe to be installed in areas never before possible! But when the pipe is dragged through inaccessible terrain, unforeseen consequences may arise. Over and over we see pipe enter one end of a hole in pristine condition, then exit the other end with cuts, scrapes, gouges, and dents on the exterior of the pipe. The excitement of seeing a successful pull through can be diminished by the appearance of these flaws. A new solution to the aggressive nature of these installations was necessary.
Designing for the unknown
Denso approached the task of solving this problem with a shotgun approach. We knew that there could be any number of risks that come from entering into an unknown environment, and as such the testing began to find a solution that would protect the pipe and its coating from a wider array of threats. It is simple to develop a protective system that solves for one or even two independent and known threats, it is a different game all together to create a protection system that will address shearing, abrasion, impact, gouge (SAIG), and bending forces all at the same time and at a high level.
Welcome to the era of SAIG protection: Denso Bore-Wrap
Denso Bore-Wrap is the first horizontal directional drilling (HDD) protection system to address the SAIG protection needs. It was designed with all of the aforementioned threats in mind. Often a system that is hard enough to resist gouging will not resist impacts well. Also many systems that have good flexibility may lack the required shear resistance needed in an HDD installation. Bore-Wrap is well rounded and highly ranked against the threats that lay before it in the previously inaccessible areas where HDDs will be pulled through. Save yourself and your customers the heart burn and the expense that comes with re-pulling pipe or adding more cathodic protection than was planned, by adding Bore-Wrap around the pipe before you pull it in.
