HDD Academy Rocks Out in Arizona

The 2015 HDD Academy, hosted by the Arizona State University Del E. Webb School of Construction and Benjamin Media Inc., brought together horizontal directional drilling experts and contractors Feb. 18-20 in Tempe, Ariz., for a two-day intensive course designed to equip attendees with a plethora of HDD knowledge.

The event was sold out prior to the show, drawing more than 100 drillers to the Residence Inn Tempe Downtown/University in Tempe, who were interested in gaining knowledge about HDD and networking with HDD professionals.hdd academy

Topics covered included: HDD Contracts and Specifications; Designing an HDD Project for HDPE Pipe; Design an HDD Project for Steel Pipe; Calculating Frac-Outs; Productivity Tools for HDD; Properties of Fusible PVC Pipe; Case Study: Fusible PVC Installation; Properties of Restrained Joint Ductile Iron Pipe; Estimating an HDD Project; Drill Fluid Selection; Testing of Drilling Fluid Properties; Environmental Considerations of Drilling Fluids; Direct Pipe HDD Installations; Walkover Locating and Real-time Fluid Pressure Monitoring; Non-Walkover Locating; Non-Walkover Locating and Intercept Bores; Damage Prevention Measures; Case Study: Installation of Telecommunication/Electrical Cables; Case Study: Installation of Water Pipelines; Case Study: Installation of Gas Distribution Systems; and Case Study: Installation of On-Grade Sewer Pipelines.
