Xylem Inc. Appoints Managing Director for Xylem India
Xylem Inc. has announced theappointment of H. Balasubramaniam (Bala) as the company’s new managing directorfor Xylem in India.
He joins Xylem from GeneralElectric, where he spent more than 15 years, most recently as business directorof the company’s locomotive projects business, and prior to that as CEO of GEWater Process and Technologies, South Asia. He replaces Sam Yamdagni, who is leaving the company.
“Bala’s extensive global operationsexpertise and his success in growing GE’s water business in India fit perfectlywith our need to develop further in this important growth market,” said XylemInc. CEO and president Steve Loranger. “We will look to him to build on thefoundation we’ve established, leveraging our talented team to help our existingand new customers in India solve their most challenging water issues.”
While at GE, he was also vice presidentof GE Capital International Services and general manager of quality and operationsat the company’s Industrial Systems group. Prior to that, he held various engineering positions at Ford New Holland Tractors and Eicher-Mitsubishi. He earned a bachelor’s degree in industrialengineering at India’s National Institute of Industrial Engineering in Mumbai,and a master’s degree in quality and statistics at Birla Institute ofTechnology and Science, Pilani in India. He is a certified Master Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma.
Xylem in India
Xylem employs 200 people in India,and operates a manufacturing and testing facility, as well as a Research,Development and Engineering Center in Vadodara. The company also has sales and service facilities in Mumbai, Bangalore,Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Pune. Thecompany has participated in a number of high-profile water projects in thepower, industrial, irrigation and water and wastewater treatment sectors inIndia, including receipt of a contract to provide water transport systems tothe Andhra Pradesh irrigation project.
