Trenchless Technology Road Show Draws Regional Interest in the Windy City

Chicago TRSThe Trenchless Technology Road Show completed a successful two-day conference May 14-15. The event, organized by Trenchless Technology, was held at the Hilton Lisle/Naperville outside of Chicago.

The conference, sponsored by NozzTeq Inc., Sunbelt Rentals and RJN Group, attracted attendees from all across North America, but was also a great regional focus of engineers, contractors and utility owners involved in underground construction in the greater Chicago area.

The show provided attendees with several networking and educational opportunities through the exhibit hall, which included 20 exhibiting companies and the five-track technical sessions, which included more than 20 presentations on topics such as pipeline planning and design, construction and rehabilitation, materials, geotechnical considerations, inspection and condition assessment, asset management and sustainability.

The sessions also included presentations from some prominent names in the trenchless industry, such as LMK president and 2013 Trenchless Technology Person of the Year, Larry Kiest Jr., who gave a presentation on “20 Years of Trenchless Technology.” Dr. Tom Iseley, professor at IUPUI (Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis), founder of the Trenchless Technology Center at Louisiana Tech University and 1993 Trenchless Technology Person of the Year was also on hand to present on asset management for sustainability in water and sewer systems.

On May 15, the afternoon technical session concluded with a panel discussion with utility owners from local municipalities in Illinois who gave an overview of their infrastructure systems and some of the challenges they face, followed by an open question-and-answer session with attendees.

The outdoor demos were again another highlight of the Trenchless Technology Road Show, as Source 1 Environmental, Red Horse, Inc., Inserta Tee, LMK Technologies and NozzTeq, each gave attendees a hands-on approach to some of the new technology and techniques being used in the industry.
The next TTRS is being planned for Nov. 12-13 in Boston. For details, visit www.trenchlessroadshows.com.
