PLCA Holds 58th Annual Convention
This year’s PLCA convention was held at the Four Seasons Resort, Feb. 15–19in Carlsbad, Calif., with more than 350 people in attendance.
2005-2006 PLCA president Bob Westphal, Michels Corp., presided over themeeting.
Business meetings at the convention also included a presentation by BusterGray, Universal Ensco Inc. For two years, Gray worked on the $5.5 billionwest-to-east natural gas pipeline in China. It was more than 3,800 km of 40-in.mainline work. He described the challenges in crossing the Gobi Desert, goingover mountains and even crossing the Great Wall five or six times. This enormousproject completed during 2002–2004 included 62 HDD crossings. The projectaccumulated 65.5 million manhours of work.
Recognizing the huge impact the Hispanic population is having in the UnitedStates, and in particular in construction, PLCA is converting all of itstraining videos into Spanish.
At the convention’s end, Dave Stotz, Latex Construction Co., was installed asthe PLCA 2006-2007 president. The 2007 convention will be held Feb. 21-25 at theFairmont Turnberry Isle Resort, Aventura, Fla.
