Obituary: Aries Industries’ Dick Schantz

Aries Industries’ and chemical grouting expert Richard “Dick” Schantz, 71, passed away on Sept. 6.

Schantz was born in Wauwatosa, Wis., on Oct. 11, 1942, son of Harold and Monona Nickles Schantz. He was a true Boy Scout, achieving Eagle Scout and Order of The Arrow status. He was captain of the hockey team at Madison West High School and later played college hockey at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). He proudly served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Seabees, and met his wife while stationed overseas.

Schantz married Ann Rayfield on Aug. 30, 1969, in the Seychelles Islands. He worked in international construction as an engineer in Saudi Arabia for Aqua Chem building desalination plants. Schantz worked for Aries Industries, starting in 1989 and retiring in 2013. He was also a longtime member of NASSCO and its Infiltration Control Grouting Association. He was also owner of Schantz Technical Services LLC. He was an avid canoer, taking annual paddling trips to the Boundary Waters with his daughter. In recent years he began competing with his son on the Lake Sinnissippi Ice Racing Circuit (car #75). He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ann Schantz, and their two children, John Schantz of Saukville and Mai Wyn Schantz of Denver. He is further survived by brothers- and sisters-in-law, other relatives and friends.
