GSSI UtilityScan Compact GPR System at Public Works Expo 2019, INTERGEO 2019
GSSI, the world’s leading manufacturer of ground penetrating radar (GPR) equipment, will showcase its UtilityScan compact GPR system for utility locating at the Public Works Expo 2019 in Seattle and at INTERGEO 2019 in Messe Stuttgart, Germany.
Featuring a wireless and lightweight configuration, the UtilityScan’s compact size makes it extremely portable and easy to maneuver in tight survey areas. This model is designed specifically to meet the needs of electrical contractors, utility installers, and municipal and state gas and water utilities.

UtilityScan works up to maximum depths of 35 ft (10 m) and uses a 350 HS antenna. Featuring a robust new wireless antenna that can handle required data rates, UtilityScan is ruggedly built to withstand challenging field conditions.
The electrical design uses GSSI’s patented HyperStacking technology, which has proven to increase depth penetration in challenging soils, while also providing high near surface data resolution. The unit also has a backup Ethernet connection if Wi-Fi is not desired or allowed on a particular jobsite or facility.
UtilityScan is integrated with GSSI’s LineTrac accessory, which helps locate specific power sources situated underground, including AC power and induced RF energy present in conduits.

UtilityScan uses a wireless tablet-based system and a simplified app-based user interface that is convenient and easy to use. The tablets feature a built-in GPS, which can be used for providing location information in the radar data file. Two tablet options are available, including the fully-rugged Panasonic Toughpad FZ-A2 and the consumer-based tablet. Weighing in at only 34 lbs, the UtilityScan when folded is 22-in. by 19.25-in. by 12.5-in. and can fit in the back of a small vehicle or in some overhead airplane compartments.
Also on display at INTERGEO will be the updated SIR 4000 GPR control unit, designed to bridge the legacy of GSSI’s traditional analog antennas with next-generation digital offerings.
Fully integrated, the SIR 4000 control unit on display provides a 10.4 in. high definition LED display, a simple user interface, plug-and-play GPS integration, and Wi-Fi enabled data transfer functionality. Exclusive features include a casted aluminum chassis that offers superior temperature stability and an impact resistant design that combined, delivers a full IP 65 rated unit, which stands up to tough jobsite conditions.
