Muenchmeyer is the 22nd winner of the award and will officially be recognized by his peers at the 2014 NASTT No-Dig Show Kick-Off Breakfast April 14 at the Gaylord Palms Hotel and Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.
“I want to congratulate Gerry on being named the 2014 Trenchless Technology Person of the Year. His tireless energy, experience and lifelong commitment to the industry, as well as the utmost respect from his colleagues, make Gerry the perfect choice for this year’s award,” said Trenchless Technology publisher Bernard P. Krzys.“I look forward to officially honoring him as our Person of the Year at the 2014 No-Dig Show.”
Muenchmeyer’s career spans more than 50 years and his work in the trenchless marketplace dates to the 1980s where he was instrumental in bringing the cured-in-place-pipe (CIPP) application to the United States while working to find a solution to rebuild the failing asbestos cement sewer system in Freeport, N.Y.
Working with WRc in England, Muenchmeyer successfully used the technology, leading to the use of trenchless applications on future projects. This also led to the formation of a partnership that established Insituform of New England, Inc. Muenchmeyer led Insituform of New England, from its inception to its purchase by Insituform Technologies Inc., with an excess of $22 million per year in sales.
Other career highlights include work as city engineer for Worcester, Mass. and serving as national marketing director for Raven Lining Systems in Tulsa, Okla. where he provided engineering support, developing Miller Pipeline Corp’s pipeline rehabilitation division, building the trenchless rehabilitation division of K.R. Swerdfeger Construction Inc., director of operations for Reline America and the eventual creation of Muenchmeyer Associates, LLC in 2006 to provide support for the trenchless rehabilitation industry.
Muenchmeyer, as technical director of the National Association of Sewer Service Companies (NASSCO), developed several inspector training programs for trenchless technologies including CIPP, manhole rehabilitation and the soon to be launched pipe bursting program. These programs have become the industry standard for the certification of field inspectors and have provided specialized skillsets to thousands of inspectors in North America. His professional affiliations include WEF, ASCE, NASTT, NASSCO, IPBA and others.
A selection committee of industry professionals selects the honoree and Trenchless Technology magazine, the leading publication covering the trenchless marketplace, will feature this year’s winner in its March issue.
Presenting the award to Muenchmeyer will be Trenchless Technology publisher and Benjamin Media CEO Bernard P. Krzys.
