CUIIC Hosting Second Advanced HDD School in Calgary

Those looking to bolster their knowledge of horizontal directional drilling – whether experienced or new to the subject – should plan to attend the 2025 Advanced HDD School.

This school is presented by the Canadian Underground Infrastructure Innovation Centre (CUIIC).

Taking place May 21 and 22 at the TELUS Convention Centre in Calgary, the school is a key component of the CUIIC Academy.

What Is the Advanced HDD School?

The Advanced HDD School provides in-depth coverage of horizontal directional drilling (HDD). Topics include construction, design, risk management, and contracting processes. The school is an extension of a program that first started at the University of Alberta’s Consortium for Engineered Trenchless Technologies (CETT). This program is a precursor to CUIIC and both were led by Dr. Ali Bayat, Professor, University of Alberta.

The Advanced HDD School agenda is designed to provide valuable education. It benefits both novice and veteran design engineers, construction management engineers, project owners, and engineering consultants.
Led by Bayat and a group of industry experts, the classroom-based program emphasizes an interactive learning environment. The speakers are renowned for their knowledge in HDD. They provide a diverse curriculum that includes theoretical knowledge, enriched with practical case studies and real-world examples.

“The Advanced HDD School provides a unique opportunity for professionals to expand their knowledge and skills in horizontal directional drilling. It offers valuable insights for both newcomers and experienced practitioners in the field,” says Bayat.

After completing this course, participants will have an in-depth and technical understanding of HDD. They will gain comprehensive coverage of the construction, design, risk management, and contracting processes.
