Ahmad Habibian Receives ASCE Stephen D. Bechtel Pipeline Engineering Award
Ahmad Habibian, Ph.D., P.E., F.ASCE, was recently honored with the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Stephen D. Bechtel Pipeline Engineering Award for his outstanding achievements in the engineering profession.
This award recognizes a member of the ASCE who has made a significant contribution to the advancement of pipeline engineering in research, planning, design or construction.
Habibian currently serves as CDM Smith vice president and global practice leader for water conveyance. He specializes in infrastructure management, pipeline assessment and rehabilitation, and trenchless technology.
He is the editor-in-chief of the ASCE Journal of Pipeline Systems Engineering & Practice, founding chair of the ASCEâs Technical Committee for Trenchless Installation of Pipelines (TIPS), and founding chair of the Underground Pipelines Asset Management Committee (UPAM). Habibian has also served in leadership positions at the American Water Works Association (AWWA) and was a trustee of the AWWA Distribution and Plant Operations & Maintenance Division from 2009-2015.

Habibian formally received the award at the UESI Pipelines 2022 Conference in Indianapolis on Aug. 2.

The Stephen D. Bechtel Pipeline Engineering Award recognizes outstanding achievements in pipeline engineering, the Bechtel Foundation donated funds to support this award in honor of the contributions made by Stephen D. Bechtel, F.ASCE, to the engineering profession and for his noteworthy advancements in the design and construction of pipelines throughout the world. The award was established by the Board of Direction in October 1970.
