PEOPLE: Jacobs Associates Promotes Castro to Principal
Underground engineering specialists, Jacobs Associates, announce the promotion of Rafael Castro to Principal.
Castro has been involved in the underground engineering industry for 20 years on more than a dozen major tunneling projects on both the East and West coasts. His experience includes design, construction management and condition assessment for sewage, water-conveyance and transit tunnels. He served as project manager/resident engineer in charge of construction management on the Narragansett Bay Commissionâs Combined Sewer Overflow Facilities Program Phase I, Providence, R.I.
His design-to-construction background provides experienced-based review of design concepts that reduces risk and exposure to project owners during construction. He has an extensive understanding of ground improvement techniques relevant to soft-ground tunnels and microtunnels. Such techniques include chemical grouting, compaction grouting, jet grouting, compressed air and dewatering. He is currently a project manager as part of the District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authorityâs Long-Term Control Plan to manage CSOs to the Anacostia and Potomac Rivers and Rock Creek.
