ISUFT 2008 Slated for March

The fifth International Symposium on Underground Freight Transport (ISUFT) will be held March 20-22 on the campus of The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA).

The event will include presentations of technical papers, exhibition of technologies related to underground freight transportation (UFT) and field trips to local industries and projects. The event will be hosted by UTA and its co-chairmen are Prof. John H. Matthys, Dr. Nur Yazdani, Dr. Henry Liu and Dr. Mohammad Najafi.
Symposium topics include capsule pipelines; pipeline transport; underground freight transport systems; underground construction technology; trenchless technology; modern tunneling technologies; geology and geotechnical issues; design of capsules and vehicles used in UFT; cost and economics of UFT systems; legal and environmental aspects of UFT; safety and security of UFT systems; political and institutional issues regarding UFT; case studies of major UFT systems in different nations; and other topics related to UFT.

The aim of the symposium is to draw government agencies, design and consulting engineers, economists, legal experts, logicians and interested end-users for discussion of recent developments in UFT as well as of the technical, economical and legal possibilities, opportunities and challenges. The symposium will present new developments and results both in podium and in poster sessions, but will also be an excellent occasion for exhibition of technical tools and equipment, as well as for practical outdoor demonstrations.
