Editor’s Message – On the Road Again…
It would appear we’ve hit a plateau with regards to the COVID-19 pandemic as vaccination rates across the United States continue to increase. We are slowly entering what many are calling our new normal. What does that mean for our industry? I am not sure because — if you’re in the sewer and drain cleaning, inspection and repair industry — chances are you never stopped working. In fact, many people reported being busier than ever.
It’s great that we can say that — even on my end of the business — and now we can look forward to getting back together to network, exchange ideas and scope out new and improved technologies. That’s why I am pleased to say that the Pipe Cleaning PRO team will be at the 2021 WWETT Show in Indianapolis June 29 to July 2. It will offer us the first opportunity since…well…the 2020 WWETT Show to meet with the industry at-large.
While video chats and emails have proven quite useful in the last year, face-to-face interaction is superior. If you’re planning to be in Indianapolis for the WWETT Show, Pipe Cleaning PRO and its sister publication Trenchless Technology will be in Booth #4741. Be sure to stop, say hello and chat about the industry with us.

Speaking of meeting face-to-face, I had the fortune of being able to sit down and chat with Joshua Halstead, of Elyria-Ohio based Valu-Rooter. Josh is a third-generation plumber, who learned the trade from working with his dad, serving Northeast Ohio. You can read more about Josh and the Valu-Rooter team starting on pg. 12.
Also in this issue is our inaugural PRO Essentials section – starting on pg. 22 – which features short articles discussing some of the key equipment sewer and drain PROfessionals need to complete their jobs. We hope you find this resource useful when selecting new tools and technologies to add to your service offerings. Speaking of technologies, our PRO Tips and Product Showcase section, which starts on pg. 38, focuses on lateral repair and rehab.
Rounding out this issue; The Hartford discusses the importance of contractors’ insurance (pg. 44), RDO Equipment provided a story that answers some of the key questions about renting equipment (pg. 18) and we compiled a selection of root control and clearing case studies (pg. 34).
