George Bontus No-Dog North 2023 Presentation

Editor’s Message – Gearing Up for an ‘Event’-FUL Half of 2025

mike kezdi

Hello all and welcome to the latest edition of Trenchless Technology Canada.
As we are half-way through the year, I hope that your projects are running along smoothly and you’re able to have some time to get away from things to enjoy the warmer weather. There is a lot to be said for a good work-life balance after all.

However, as we all know, construction never truly stops. It’s one project after another, with little rest in between. This is especially true as we stare down workforce shortages and rapidly aging and failing infrastructure.

This is why it’s important that we attend trade shows, conferences, lunch-and-learns, etc. I know I tend to harp on this. But it’s because it’s good for the industry, as a whole. And, in turn, it gives us important projects to highlight in our magazine.

One of our biggest opportunities to connect each year is the NASTT No-Dig Show. I know many familiar faces were absent from the 2025 iteration — for obvious reasons — so I am hoping there is an even greater turnout this fall in Vancouver for No-Dig North. It is an international event, after all.

Earlier than that — for those who can and do choose to travel to the United States — I hope to see you at UESI Pipelines in Tampa or our inaugural PipeLive Rehab event in Warren, Michigan. Both events take place in August.

Why are these events important? It’s as simple as this. Events give you the opportunity to promote yourself, your business and the industry. You get to be part of the education of system owners. Having a seat at that table ensures you have a say in the growth of the industry.

One company that knows the benefits of our industry’s many events is Insituform Technologies Ltd. I had the pleasure of chatting with Ken and Andrew Foster and George Bontus for this cover story.

You can find many stories about the origins of Insituform in the United States, but the Canadian arm has much less exposure. So, it was nice to hear from these gentlemen about the growth of the company and what lies ahead.

In the what lies ahead column, the trio noted an uptick in pressure pipe rehab work. Coincidentally, we cover that topic from two angles — carbon fibre wraps and spray-applied lining — deeper in this issue.
I encourage you to click on over and read those stories.

We also compiled a directory of some of the main trenchless contractors working across Canada. If your company isn’t listed, please let me know.
