Doug Carlson Resigns as NUCA CEO
The National Utility Contractors Association (NUCA) announced April 11 that its CEO Doug Carlson has submitted his resignation to the Board of Directors.
Carlson joined NUCA in 2020. Before joining NUCA Carlson formerly served as the President and CEO of the Associated Builders and Contractors’ (ABC) Rocky Mountain Chapter in Denver, Colorado. Prior to his role at ABC’s Rocky Mountain Chapter, Carlson served for 15 years as the President and CEO of ABC’s Carolina chapter, and served as the top executive for ABC’s Greater Michigan and the Building Contractors Association in Northeast Indiana for several years.
In the statement announcing Carlson’s resignation, NUCA writes, “NUCA appreciates Carlson’s service and dedication to this association and our industry. We wish him well in all of his future endeavors and goals. We are grateful for his dedication to the membership and the programs he brought to the association. Thanks to NUCA’s forward-thinking strategic planning and succession management, our executive committee is well-prepared to navigate this transition with confidence and enthusiasm. They are engaging a top-tier executive search firm to support our leadership in identifying the perfect candidate to carry our mission forward.”
In the interim, NUCA appointed Chris Barrett as the interim chief executive officer.
The statement continues, “With her proven leadership and deep understanding of our organization, Barrett is poised to guide NUCA forward during this interim period. She will ensure uninterrupted momentum as we seek a permanent CEO. We anticipate welcoming a new CEO as early as this fall. This will build on the organizational foundation laid by Mr. Carlson over the last five years.”
Currently serving as NUCA’s chief operating officer since June 2016, Barrett brings a wealth of expertise to her interim role. As a key member of NUCA’s executive leadership team, she has championed operational excellence. She has collaborated seamlessly with staff, members, Chapter leaders, and industry experts to drive meaningful outcomes for NUCA and America’s utility construction industry.
“The NUCA Board of Directors and national staff are energized to continue advancing our association. We are delivering unparalleled benefits and opportunities to our members. We deeply value the support of our membership and eagerly invite your fresh ideas and insights as we work together to elevate and expand NUCA in the coming weeks and months,” the statement ends.
