The Toro Co. Acquires Tornado Infrastructure Equipment
Ahead of The Utility Expo 2025, Ditch Witch announced that its parent company, The Toro Co. has entered into an agreement to acquire Tornado Infrastructure Equipment Ltd. Headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, Tornado Infrastructure Equipment is a premier manufacturer of vacuum excavation trucks and infrastructure equipment solutions.
While this transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions, the acquisition will help build on Ditch Witch’s position as the global leader in underground construction.
In 2022, Ditch Witch collaborated with Tornado Infrastructure Equipment to co-develop an exclusive line of Ditch Witch-branded hydrovac trucks. These trucks are backed by the worldwide Ditch Witch dealership network through localized sales, service, and support.
Based in Calgary, Alberta, Tornado Infrastructure Equipment has long been recognized for its innovation in delivering powerful, precise and high-capacity hydrovac solutions. Its technology is designed for safe excavation around utility lines and other sensitive infrastructure. Tornado’s systems use high-pressure water or air alongside robust vacuum systems. This combination provides contractors with solutions that reduce risk while maximizing efficiency on urban and complex projects.
“Tornado is well known in the industry for its innovation and focus on addressing the needs of customers in the infrastructure sector,” said Kevin Smith, Ditch Witch president. “This acquisition helps broaden our product offerings to support customers working on projects in energy, power transmission and water infrastructure. We have worked with the Tornado team since 2022 and look forward to continued collaboration to strengthen our role in the construction industry.”

The Warlock Series
Since the initial manufacturing agreement, the relationship has been centered on introducing the Warlock Series, including the W12 and W8. These models have quickly become staples on jobsites for their increased digging power and improved payload capacity. They have an enhanced ability to tackle larger and more demanding projects. Contractors consistently point to the performance of these machines as a turning point. Their strength is in expanding the productivity of underground fleets.
“Contractors continue to tell us how the Warlock models have transformed the way they approach excavation. They deliver not just capability, but confidence on every jobsite,” said Smith. “Our partnership with Tornado is a strategic move. It not only strengthens our product offering, but also accelerates our mission to be the most trusted global brand in underground construction.”
By leveraging Tornado’s hydrovac expertise with Ditch Witch’s reputation for dependable and innovative underground solutions, this partnership positions the brand to meet rising global demand in underground infrastructure. The collaboration expands contractor choice while reinforcing the Ditch Witch legacy. It advances productivity, safety and innovation across the utility, power and energy markets.
