PLCA Convention Held at Wild Horse Pass in Arizona
A special venue accommodated the Pipe Line Contractors Association (PLCA) – the Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass just outside Phoenix, Arizona – for the 2022 annual convention. The February weather was on the cooler side, but the western-style hotel and facilities weres enjoyed by the attendees.
Considering the COVID-19 pandemic, Dwayne Osadchuk, Oz Directional Drilling, carried over from 2020 to be the 2021 PLCA president. With the PLCA staff, he oversaw the convention. About 400 regular and associate members and guests attended the convention.
These are challenging times for PLCA members; however, total union man-hours were slightly up in 2021 largely due to hydrostatic testing and rehabilitation work that saw a 24 percent increase.
Like the Distribution Contractors Association (DCA), PLCA has joined the coalition Natural Allies—For a Clean Energy Future to message state and federal representatives about the oil & gas role in our energy infrastructure. Casey Joyce, Otis Eastern Service; MacNeil Mercer, T.G.Mercer Consulting Services; and Rob Riess, Henkels & McCoy of PLCA’s Government Affairs Committee reported Natural Allies spent over $900,000 in recent months on oil and gas advocacy.
The PLCA Scholarship Foundation held a silent auction; and 20 four-year Paul Evans Scholarships were announced. Since 1999, nearly 300 scholarships have been awarded totaling $6.5 million.
Steven Rooney, Precision Pipeline, was presented as PLCA’s 2022 president at the annual banquet closing out the convention. The 2023 convention will be held Feb. 7-11 at the Grand Hyatt Resort on the island of Kauai in Hawaii.
