History: Vermeer, which started manufacturing HDD drills in 1991, is on its S3 generation of drills. These drills have enhanced speed, simplicity and sound reduction. In addition to the information provided last year regarding improved ground speed, carriage speed, rotational speed, sound reduction and rod breakout efficiency, we have also added optional Vermeer productivity tools technology to a number of our drills to help operators better plan and execute their bores and keep track on maintenance and machine productivity. The planning technology is Vermeer BoreAssist and maintenance technology is Vermeer Fleet.
Products Summary: Vermeer has 15 models in its fleet. The D10x15 S3 Navigator horizontal directional drill has 10,000 lb thurst/pullback and 1,500 ft-lb of rotational torque. It has a slender width allowing it to easily maneuver within narrow jobsites and position side by side with a mix system on a trailer. It’s ideal for small service installation. The D40x55 S3 Navigator horizontal directional drill is well-suited for a variety of applications – from long fiber shots to light pipeline work. It offers 40,000 lbs of thrust/pullback and 5,500 ft-lb of rotational torque. It’s available with a range of 10 ft or 15 ft rod options and can carry up to 525 ft of pipe, depending on the pipe selected. The newest model is the D10x15 S3, while its most popular models are the D23x30 S3 and the D24x40 S3. Vermeer drills are unique in the fact that most are stamped with an S3 badge, meaning they are tested to meet a set standard level of sound and speed output, while still staying simple enough for an operator to move easily from one model to the next.
