GEONEX Horizontal Hammer Boring Systems

GOT ROCK? Cobbles, boulders or mixed conditions? Check out GEONEX!!! The Finish manufacturer of complete Horizontal Hammer Boring (HHB) systems has earned their reputation as the go-to solution for hard ground crossings and continues to build upon their success in North American market with a proven track record of success.

If you have ever gotten a cobble stuck in your auger, you had to pull auger to investigate a rock out cropping or simply had to change methods based on differing soils in your bore path, the HHB method is a proven viable solution. Used in both new utility installations in similar situations to auger boring and other pipe jacking methods, the GEONEX HHB System has also proven essential for installing HDD surface casings from Colorado to Minnesota, Quebec and New York.

17 complete systems have been purchased by 8 clients across the continental U.S. and Canada, making the ratio of units to clients more than double, further illustrating the satisfaction and reliability clients have for the products, service, and method of installation GEONEX provides. Add to that the 18 completed installations in less than 24 months utilizing GEONEX rental units clearly show the ability of the equipment to get the job done.

What separates GEONEX and Horizontal Hammer Boring from traditional pipe jacking or pipe ramming is the down hole hammer. Cutting action is done in-line with the bore path by accelerating a heavy carbide buttoned steel bit to break down solid formations at the front of the bore path. This differs significantly to other methods that utilize a rotating face designed to cut and scrape as difficult soils. Casing is advanced further by the steel bit strikes an internal collar of the lead casing creating a straight installation with minimal deviation, as opposed to traditional jacking from the rear which is more susceptible to deviations to a path of least resistance.

Increase in demand after receiving the innovative product award at No-Dig in 2019, led GEONEX in 2022 to internalize all sales and distribution operations throughout the U.S. and Canada. In June of 2023, GEONEX added equipment rental to its offerings enabling Contractors, Engineers and utility Owners the opportunity to see firsthand how the equipment performs in their local geology. In June 2025, GEONEX expanded its rental offering to include additional systems as well as the opportunity for existing clients to rent various size tooling as clients put their equipment to work.

With a quick and easy set-up time, along with fast and efficient installation rates often exceeding 10 feet per hour through cobbles, boulders, solid bedrock, and mixed face conditions provide for a wide range of soil conditions with the same down-hole tooling making the GEONEX system a great tool for any Trenchless Contractors’ toolbox.
